We chose Martin & Co because we found that they were professional, ambitious and have a proven track record for success
Nora and Iain Sinclair are longstanding Martin & Co franchise partners in Scotland. They have been the owners of Martin & Co Kirkcaldy since November 2001 and they recently took the plunge and bought Martin & Co Dundee
as a resale business. Having already been a husband and wife team who
have been franchising together for over a decade, they were confident in
their ability to open their next business.
As a husband and wife team, Nora and Iain are able to use their combined skills not only to run their business in a smooth and professional manner, but to make their business successful and profitable. Nora and Iain purchased the Dundee business from the previous owners which is a great way to buy a franchise without having to start from scratch. There is already awareness of the business in the territory along with a demand for their services.
Franchising was the right option for us because we know that we would benefit from the training and support on offer.
"Martin & Co have a strong national brand that is well-known so there is already a customer base in place when you set-up your office. We have also found the marketing support at Martin & Co excellent and this is something that would not be provided if you decided to go it alone.”
Martin & Co is one of the only UK property agency franchises that offer lettings and estate agency with UK-wide recognition. With a network of just under 200 franchise offices, they are the largest property franchise business in the UK.
“We chose Martin & Co because we found that they were professional, ambitious and have a proven track record for success. Other franchise owners have built successful businesses under the support and guidance of the Martin & Co brand so we saw no reason why we wouldn’t be able to too. The support of a large brand like Martin & Co has allowed us to build a successful business that we can profit from ourselves. Our experience with Martin & Co has been so good, we wouldn’t hesitate to buy another franchise.”
“It took us around two to four weeks to decide to buy our Martin & Co franchise, so not long at all! It was an easy decision to make once we’d done our research. We had looked at other businesses such as an online retail franchise and a café or restaurant but we decided that Martin & Co would be where our combined skillset would be best put to use.”
Our primary aim for both of our businesses is to make a good profit and ensure that both are running as smoothly and successfully as possible. Having two successful franchises will greatly improve our work/life balance which was part of the reason for us investing in a franchise in the first place!
Franchise owners like Nora and Iain take market share in their dedicated franchise territories through the marketing, media and public relations support provided by Martin & Co.
On lettings income alone, on average, Martin & Co’s franchise owners who are high street based turnover £245k in year 3 and you can expect to build your business to in excess of £380k in just 5 years.
“For our training, we were talked through the procedure for undertaking the marketing support that is provided by Martin & Co. This support has been extremely useful for us and really helps to spread the word about the business. The support has continued since we have taken over the Dundee office and we’re really looking forward to seeing the results of all our hard work and effort in our new business.”
“We’re excited about starting our new business venture and we think that the secret to our success has been that we have remained positive and enthusiastic right from the very early days of opening our franchise.”
With high street and online presence, the secret of Martin & Co’s franchise owners’ success is that they can provide local property knowledge whilst being backed by a national brand. Martin & Co has been recognised time and time again for its award-winning service by their clients winning Gold for Best Large Letting Chain at the ESTAS in 2009 & 2012, as well as Silver in 2010, 2011 & 2013, and most recently Bronze in 2014.
“At the moment, we don’t have any specific plans for the future. We’re just enjoying life and taking each day as it comes. Our plan for the next five years is to get the Kinross and Dundee offices successful and profitable as we feel that we have a duty and responsibility to keep the employment of our staff who have dedicated a huge amount of time and effort to making our business a success.”
“However, we would like to take more of a backseat in the business eventually. A couple of years ago, we took the decision to step back a little and changed the business set-up to LLP. We have given our key employees the opportunity to become a partner of the business without having to pay us a penny. None of our employees feel that they are at the stage to take that plunge yet but we know that when we do decide to retire, our business will be in safe hands!”
Our advice to anyone looking into buying their first franchise would be to work hard, you will only see positive results if you put the work in.
